Professional Views and Values
Shagun Sharma
I have lived and worked in different areas across the GTA (Toronto, Markham, Etobicoke, Scarborough, and Vaughan, to name a few) which has influenced my frameworks to be client centered; in a session with me, you can expect an environment that is productive, comfortable, at times humorous, supportive, and collaborative.
I find that through collaboration, we can tailor and create a psychotherapeutic process that can be beneficial for you and result in more long-term influences, while also giving you a feeling of control and strength in your own narrative.
I consider myself to be a BIPOC LGBTQIA+ Ally and I am very mindful of LGBTQIA+ issues, issues affecting marginalized groups, gender-based issues, and cultural issues.
To me, being a psychotherapist means being a professional that can help support others on their journey, while giving my client’s the space explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. I find your comfort and safety to be the utmost priority, while understanding that the first steps to therapy can be challenging.

Experience
Framework and Approach
I work with children (12+), adolescents, and adults from various backgrounds and cultures. I have worked in various positions in the mental health field, such as: Crisis Counselling, Suicide Prevention, and Crisis Responder. I have also been trained in various frameworks and continue to engage in trainings, workshops and courses. I believe I have an active responsibility to engage in learning opportunities to best support my clients.
My main frameworks are Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My overall approach is to guide and support the client as they reflect on events, people, and experiences that have contributed to their story. Through understanding the history and different intersectional influences on the presented issue, the client and I will work together to process and productively find the appropriate course of action.
